have you ever seen ‘storm clouds over a flooded landscape’- da vinci 1517-18. it’s pure genius. i think it’s the most beautiful image that he ever created. i love everything about da vinci and have so for years. his illustrations, inventions, sketches. everything. i’ve become interested in the brain as of late. it’s functions. it’s plasticity. it’s ability to heal. read ‘the brain that changes itself’- norman doidge, and you’ll understand why.
i will not pretend that i have understood or reached the intellect of either da vinci or doidge, but in the way of this sketch, i have attempted to portray my appreciation for them both, in relation to experience. each experience correlates with a part of the brain. listening to tchaikovskys’ swan lake on record- the right hand side of the brain, the temporal lobe, where our ability to distinguish pitch lies. my inability to tell the time- connected to the parietal lobe, where the ability to understand symbols is developed, etc, etc.
i really enjoyed drawing this and hope to upload more in this style soon.
